Kaohsiung city, Taiwan (December 27, 2021)- On December 23th, FCF co., Ltd. (FCF) collaborated with Taiwan Seamen and Fishermen’s Service Center (SFSC) to hold a Christmas event at Kaohsiung port, singing Christmas carol and giving out “Worker’s Voice” backpack to crew members as Christmas presents this year.
Withholding of workers’ personal documents has been one of the concerns in fishery industry that we’re dedicated to improve. On the other hand, fishermen are lacking the backpacks that can store their belongings, and often have to hold or stuff things into their pockets during working period, which often caused the loss of personal documents.
FCF, therefore, donated 1000 easy-carrying backpacks as Christmas presents for fishermen. Through the presents, FCF not only want to help them to get into the habit of keeping their belongings in check, but also promote the concept that crew members should own the right to keep their private documents by themselves.
Besides, this year, FCF has cooperated with SFSC to conduct Worker’s Voice program which aims to establish a digital grievance mechanism, providing a safe, instant and efficient e-platform for fishermen to communicate with external third party regarding their lives at sea, in this case the SFSC who is independently handling the grievance cases. FCF is continuously implementing the roll out of the Worker’s Voice Program, which includes engagement visit to vessel operators, raising awareness among crew member communities onboard Taiwan-based fishing vessels, capacity building sessions throughout the supply chain, and also through fishery associations to encourage the adoption among its members.
During the event, Arthur Yeh, the Executive Vice President of FCF also introduced Worker’s Voice Program to the crew members, encouraging them to seek help and solve the problems through the platform. FCF believes that grievance mechanism is one of the most important aspects of social practices in any industry, and it has many advantages over company’s business operation as well. FCF will continue to involve in social responsibility program for the improvement of health and safety, and human rights on board the fishing vessels.
